About the Authors

Dr John Kohnke holds a Roseworthy Diploma in Agriculture (Hons 2) and a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons 1) from Sydney University. John’s veterinary knowledge of equine health is matched by his longstanding focus on horse nutrition and feeding practices.  With extensive experience of working with trainers, studs and horse owners for almost 50 years, John is recognised as a leading Australian authority in horse health management and nutrition.

John has written 5 popular books on horse nutrition over the last 30 years, contributed to multi-author text books.

Dr Philippa Kohnke, his daughter and co-author, holds a BSc (Hons 1) in Molecular Biotechnology and a PhD in Biochemistry from Sydney University. Philippa has a love of horses and is passionate about improving their health and performance through optimised nutrition.

Philippa has a unique ability to develop effective dietary supplements and health care products based on her biochemical expertise and background in scientific research. Philippa manages Kohnke’s Own extensive field trial projects which involve hundreds of horses from all over Australia and can take between 2 to 7 years to complete.
